Le défi hivernale de l'île-Bizard: 46 is me

Submitted by matthew on Sun, 2007-02-11 20:23.

Le défi hivernale was definitely fun. I wasn't quite as fast as I would have like... 3 min faster and I would have met my goal... Here are my stats. There were 238 people and I came in 46th; I was 6th out of 29 men in my age group (35-40). I've also attached a PDF of my race results. BTW the pic to the left is the start of this years 2k.

Now I want to try to shave 8 min off my 10k time by my next race on the 25th of March.

This is a picture my friend Kavita took of me after I finished my marathon. I look a little goofy when I smile, but I must say I was pretty damn happy.

Montreal International Marathon - Sun Sept. 10, 2006

Submitted by matthew on Mon, 2006-10-16 14:01.

Part of the Festival de la Sante OASIS, this was the crowning race of my season; what I had been training up to all summer. It was a great race, and the conditions were perfect. The crowd was great, there was entertainment at every water stop, and the finish line was inside the Olympic Stadium (with jumbotrons and everything). It was the hardest thing I've done to date, and the last 5km were a living hell. However, it went largely according to plan, and I did a bit better than I realistically thought I would ( I finished 3:33 and predicted a finish time between 3:30 and 4:00). I was almost in tears when I crossed the finish line. My friends came to meet me at the end, and more joined me for some celebratory drinks later on in the evening.

I'm number 224 in the attached results file.

Parlee Beach Triathlon (Sprint) - Sun Aug. 20, 2006

Submitted by adie on Mon, 2006-10-16 13:55.

Despite the fact that I'm billing myself as a triathlete this is the only triathlon that I did this summer. My swim was much improved over the previous year, but it's still my BIG limiter (and what's keeping me from long course). It was fun racing at Parlee which is a 20min drive from Moncton (my home town). It was rainy and cold, but I kind of got off on that. On my way there the car that I was driving (a friend's car) ran out of gas -- luckily I managed to slowly get it to a gas station and still make to the race on time.

I'm number 24 in the attached results file

5 Peaks - Sat June 18, 2006

Submitted by matthew on Mon, 2006-10-16 13:46.

This was a trail running race at Mont Sainte Anne. I slept in the back of an SUV that I rented to drive out there... for some reason I thought Mont Sainte Anne was located closer to Montreal. It was a smaller crowd, and a very hard but very fun race. I think trail running is one of my favorite activates. They misspelled my name with Adie as my first name and Mather as my last name, so when I was called to the podium to collect the third place medal for my age group I didn't know it was me who was being called (it was also a very French crowd, and the accent made it even harder to recognize my name). Needless to say I was very happy with my results.

Look for number 8, "MATHER Adie" in the "Enduro Men" section of the attached PDF

ING Half Marathon - Sun May 28, 2006

Submitted by matthew on Mon, 2006-10-16 13:34.

This was a part of Ottawa Race Weekend. There was a much larger crowd than the Monteal race, and the conditions were fairly warm (perhaps a little too much so), but I was very happy with my results. Since Ottawa is my father's town, he was waiting for me a the finish line. Next year I plan to run the full marathon and attempt to run a qualifying time for the Boston marathon the following year.

I'm 216 in the attached race results file.

Nike 21K Mtl. - Sun Apil 23, 2006

Submitted by matthew on Mon, 2006-10-16 13:22.

21Kmtl was my first every running race... I had done many long runs of 20k, so I knew I could do it, but I did better then I thought I could. It was a cold pissy day (9C and raining), and I experience the bloody nipple effect in the last 5k.

Check out number 328 in the attached results file.

Ottawa Riverkeeper Sprint Triathlon - Sat June 18, 2005

Submitted by matthew on Mon, 2006-10-16 11:05.

The Ottawa Riverkeeper Sprint Triathlon was the first triathlon I ever did, I had been biking, running, and swimming, but until this point I had never really thought that much about competing. Turns out I actually enjoy the competition, and with the exception of my swim split I was pretty happy with my results. My run split surprised me, and my bike split wasn't too bad considering the fact that I was riding a touring bike.

I'm 31'st in the attached results file
